   THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
   SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF 
   
          SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
          EXTREME SOUTHWEST INDIANA
          WESTERN KENTUCKY
          FAR EASTERN MISSOURI
          NORTHWEST AND NORTH-CENTRAL TENNESSEE
   
   EFFECTIVE THIS MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 325 PM UNTIL
   1000 PM CDT.
   
   HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
   MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
   
   THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 85
   STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 35 MILES NORTH OF
   ALTON ILLINOIS TO 25 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF CLARKSVILLE
   TENNESSEE.  FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

   REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
   FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
   AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
   THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
   AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
   DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

   DISCUSSION...TSTMS WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE AND SPREAD
   SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE REGION THROUGH THE LATE AFTERNOON AND
   EVENING HOURS. WITH A WEAK SURFACE LOW NEAR ST LOUIS AT
   MID-AFTERNOON...MUCH OF THIS DEVELOPMENT WILL BE FOCUSED
   ALONG/SOUTHWEST OF A FRONTAL BOUNDARY THAT EXTENDS
   NORTHWEST-SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE REGION. A FAVORABLE COMBINATION OF
   SHEAR/INSTABILITY NEAR THE BOUNDARY LAYER WILL SUPPORT SUSTAINED
   SEVERE TSTMS...MAINLY IN THE FORM OF MULTICELLS/PERHAPS SOME
   SUPERCELLS...WITH DAMAGING WINDS/SEVERE HAIL. THESE STORMS MAY GROW
   UPSCALE/EXPAND INTO THIS EVENING WITH A PERSISTENT DAMAGING WIND
   THREAT CONTINUING INTO PARTS OF KY/TN.
   
   AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
   TO 1.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
   KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500. MEAN STORM
